Hunted hard during the 2018 season. A lot of promising sign was present. Snow on the ground showed plenty of bear and deer tracks . After finding an area with large rubs a 6pt came by giving me a shot.

Opening day of the southern zone deer/bear gun season. Hunting in the rugged Catskill Mountains of New York two miles up in the mountains. I was lucky enough to take a bear an hour into opening morning.

Deer hunting 2016 had some crazy weather. Received up to a food of snow after the gun season opener. Plenty of does around but no doe permits in the mountains I hunt. I did see a buck unable to get a shot with thick trees in the way. My father was able to take a nice 8pt after the snow storm ended.

Montauk October bass blitz on the north side. Very windy conditions with the waves spraying everywhere. Bass caught up to 27 inches long. Lure used 1 1/2 oz white bucktail with pork rind.

Over the summer we constructed an atv bridge. Hurricane Irene had damaged our property and washed away the bottom of the atv trail.

The food plot was made in upstate NY the last week of July. I go over the steps how the plot was built. Half the plot is clover and the other part a ryegrass, chicory, brassic and clover mix.

The 2012 New York Rifle hunting season was product. I was lucky to see a 3pt, many spikes and does. Fortunately no doe permits have been issued the last few years where I hunt mostly. Opening weekend had a few inches of snow on the ground with cold temperatures. Good tracking snow was available. A few bucks were taken of the mountain I hunt but I had no luck. Why didnt you stretch your fence?
That kind of fence didn’t stretch much. It was more stiff.
Give an update how has your garden fence worked out for you?
The fence is still holding up strong. Works great keeping all the deer out.

Dude, that’s like 15K In lumber there. I would of made it with big tree trunks and corduroy. Came out solid though.
Lumber was cheaper back then before Covid. Cutting logs and laying them across the stream could have worked also.

I got him around 7-8am within the first few hours of hunting.

Great bridge. You definitely did not intend it to be temporary. Glad to see you used concrete and buried/anchored your footings. Alot I see don't think of the sheer-load from even a small stream. I'm at the 7 years mark past construction. I'm sure maintenance but how's it still doing? Do you get much wash from the upper side going across the bridge? Great build thanks for sharing!
Hi the bridge is still standing strong. No erosion has occurred at the upper end. It’s build to last many years. Thanks for watching.

What are the hinges you used for the PVC gate ? By the way the PVC gate is genius!
I used tee hinges from the Home Depot. I changed out the screws it came with for nuts and bolts. www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-1-2-in-Black-Heavy-Duty-Tee-Hinge-15065/202034050 The pvc gate is light and easy to make any size you like.

Looks like opening day of regular season? How much did it weigh? What cartridge were you shooting?
It was opening day of deer/bear. I was using a 30-06 rifle. 165 grain bullet. Bear weighed 125lbs
Should have notched those 6x6's so the support board sit flush, provides more support. I'm sure it's fine for you, just don't build a deck like that. Or a post beam garage.

How is the bridge holding up six years later? I’m about create a similar structure, curious how you attached the concrete blocks and if they have shifted in the stream bed.
Bridge is holding strong. No problems. The concrete blocks were placed in the stream bed. I compacted some rocks before butting it down and piled large bolders around the bottom. Has not shifted much that I can see. The posts are sitting on the cement blocks and if they shift I would pile more rocks under/around it.

I agree I find you can harvest big bucks anywhere really, but something about working more for a big buck in the catskills, ADK, Maine, or Canada just makes it that much better and to do it with family is even the best feeling. great work best of luck this season
I have two will never give them up one set up for hunting other for the range.

U shot a teddy bear that bear shouldn't of been killed way 2 small. I don't care if it's 1st bear or not.
Crazy thing is I did see a larger bear later in the season. If only I waited.
@@mistermike614 you definitely can't tell the size of a single bear running through the forest. I'm pretty sure if someone bumped into this one on a dark night they'd claim it was 400lbs

A bit wider bridge to allow for slippage on the ice causing damage to the ATV.I would also have dressed the stream bottom portion under bridge with slabs of rock in order to protect the stream bed from erosion causing the blocks to drop.

I’ve shot the helium and Killed so many deer with that rig. Finally moved onto the Triax and can honestly say it’s the best bow I’ve ever owned or shot. But I still own and love my Helim

You're asking for trouble wearing camo during gun season. An orange hat just isn't enough, especially when your hood is up or your head is obscured by branches or leaves. No deer is worth that kind of chance.

Great video! Nice to see real hunters. Not all of us have a place where we can walk for miles but you can still hunt the right way. Out in the elements and in nature living with the animals and giving them fair chance!!!!! I can bet this man has had far many more days without getting a deer than he has with getting his deer.
